Napoleon’s speech from balcony of the Austerlitz Chateau became a symbol of the French victory in the battle of three emperors. This year, after 212 years, thousands of visitors will have the opportunity to hear this speech during final program in the chateau park in Slavkov u Brna (Austerlitz) accompanied by light effects.

And it will not be the only innovation that is prepared by the Austerlitz town for the program Once in Austerlitz this year. On Friday night in the chateau courtyard director Josef Abraham will introduce his movie Austerlitz Advent for the first time. A day later, the Gastronomic Battle of Three Emperors will start at the same place. Rich historical-military program begins on Friday 1st December and ends on Saturday 2nd December with a parade of almost five hundred soldiers marching through the town and a multimedia program with fireworks in the chateau park.

Visitors, however, can take in the atmosphere of the Napoleonic campaign the last November days as well. Accompanying program includes two performances in the Historical Hall of the Chateau. On Wednesday 29th November, the folk group Sternovjan from Ujezd u Brna will present range of songs called “Masiruju na Francuza” (Attacking the French), a day later baritone Martin Hammerle-Bortolotti accompanied by the Moravian Philharmonic Quintet Olomouc will perform. Both concerts will be free for the public.

On Friday Austrian soldiers of IV. colony called Kolowrat will occupy the town again. They arrive to Austerlitz after a six-day march from Olomouc. After they take the square they move to the chateau courtyard where the evening program begins. The rifle shots, smell of gunpowder and the faces of tired soldiers will create a background for the premiere of the Josef Abraham´s Austerlitz Advent film. The short twenty four-minutes film tells the story of the farm residents who were passed by all three armies on 2nd December 1805.

Historical program on the courtyard will continue with arrival of Austrian and Russian Emperors.

„While in the last few years the audience was invited to a special tour of the chateau, this year they can experience the night atmosphere in the chateau stables, where entertaining program from 17:00 will be prepared and the exposition Austerlitz – a small town of great history will make its background.” said Mayor of Austerlitz Michal Boudny.

From Saturday morning, a craft fair will be in the town centre. Soldiers, craftsmen, burghers and nobility will come. In the chateau courtyard chefs will also join the craftsmen. The novelty will be the Gastronomic Battle of Three Emperors in which they will „fight“ food and drinks inspired by the countries associated with the Battle of Austerlitz – Austria, France and Russia. Throughout the day, visitors can watch a military-historical program, settlement demonstrations or equestrian skill tournament. The program in Slavkov will also be attended by the Russian Tsar Alexandr I., who will arrive at noon to inspect allied armies.

The popular battle clash will not be missed in the town centre. „Because of limited place in front of the Town Hall we decided to make a change and we moved the clash into the space behind the church – the access path of the chateau. This makes it more comfortable to watch for more viewers. The show will display the retreat fights of this monumental battle and most of the over 300 soldiers who will be staying in Slavkov u Brna will be present,“ said the director of the Austerlitz Chateau Eva Oubelicka. She added that the program in Slavkov u Brna also has a sacred dimension. Throughout the day the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord will be opened and will perform the services of the fallen.

The main partners of the program Once in Austerlitz are LIKO-S and Slavkovsky pivovar (Slavkov Brewery). The partners are Ceska pojistovna (Czech Insurance Company), SKR Living, Swietelsky, Integrated secondary school Slavkov u Brna, Respono and Kordis. The organizer is Slavkov u Brna (Austerlitz) town and the Austerlitz Chateau. The event takes place with the support of the South Moravian Region.
